5/21/2018 0 Comments oahu wanderlust festival 2018In March, I had the opportunity to go my first Wanderlust Festival here on Oahu! Wanderlust Fest is a week long event full of yoga, outdoor activities, workshops and connecting with nature. Each festival has a super fun location in gorgeous areas and resorts. There's some fun experiences that you get to have like going to concerts, cooking classes and enjoying that specific locations local spots and things to do. You can view more pictures from the festival under the Portfolio tab. Fortunately for me, I already had a place to stay and did not have to pay for airfare, as it was in Hawaii. Turtle Bay was were the festival was hosted this year and it is the prettiest resort ever! I attended the event with two fabulous ladies, Bianca and Roxanne, from Girl Get Outside. The way Wanderlust works is they have a lineup with activities, guest speakers, classes, and live music, and it’s up to you to curate your festival experience! The first event we all attended was the Hawaiian Coastal Journey walking tour with the best guide Kahokule’a Haiku. He took us on a two hour cultural and historical nature tour of the walk from the Turtle Bay stables to Kawela Bay Pillbox. We listened to old Hawaii tales and legends. as we walked through he beautiful trail, he told us what each item of nature meant in Hawaiian or as an ancient myth. He was so engaging and I loved talking story with him. Bianca and Roxanne got to go to more events (as I was working and at school) like workshops, yoga and zip-lining at Climbworks Keana Farms. You can read their blog post on what they loved about Wanderlust here. Near the end of the week, all three of us played hooky and I was their North Shore tour guide. We began on Hau'ula Loop Trail, which was down the street from their Airbnb. We then crossed the street to the infamous “Instagram beach” with the fallen palm tree and swings. Afterwards, we drove up to Kahuku to get poke at the Superette. This is across from Kahuku High and it is my favorite poke ever!! Lastly, we finished off our day with pictures and papaya boats from the Sunrise Shack in Sunset.

I just recently redecorated my room for the first time since middle school and I am happy to share my results with you! I was trying to go for a more Tumblr look and it turned out fantastic! If you aren't familiar with the word, "Tumblr", it is a social media and a term used to describe an aesthetic look, a hipster behavior and\or minimalist lifestyle. I got my inspiration (and the photos above) from my Pinterest! It's my favorite app for so many reasons, but the main one is for all kinds of inspiration. I am very active on Pinterest and upload my photos consistently. You can follow me here. I noticed that all the Tumblr bedrooms I looked at, had the same elements such as cute pillows, neutral tones + white walls, an assortment of Polaroids + pictures, a vintage desk, a white faux fur rug and something hanging on the wall. I really wanted to decrease the amount of items in my room to a point where everything had its own place and purpose. I also aimed to be more organized with papers, clothes, jewelry etc. I provided links in this post to the exact Amazon spot where I purchased everything. So here are my 5 affordable and Tumblr ways to redecorate your room! 1) Pictures + Fairy lightsThis is my favorite part of my room! My wall was super white and boring before I put my lights and photos up. It was a total upgrade + I love seeing my photos every time I walk into in my room. This is an easy, affordable and very Tumblr way to redecorate your room. We spent half an hour putting up the lights in a coordinated way, but it was worth it. I cannot wait to take more Polaroids to fill up my wall. Polaroids are great gifts, but can be pricey because you have to buy the film separate and it is about $1 for one photo. I have been thinking about selling some of my prints, such as the three above. The one on the left was taken in Hau'ula, Hawaii and the other two were from Portugal. Let me know in the comments if you would like to buy my prints! I have the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 in the color raspberry. You can buy it for $60 (film comes separate) on Amazon here. The LED Polaroid fairy lights come with 20 photo clips for $10. You can purchase a similar from Amazon one here. 2) Wall DecalsMy room colors are different shades of blue and grey + these wall decals definitely added to the room! The dot decals came in a huge pack and we still have some left over. You peel them off individually like a sticker, which lets you be as creative as you want. I spent 15 minutes decorating the corner and then 5 minutes for the pineapple decal, on the opposite wall. Pineapple quote decal here for $18. The silver wall decal dots were $8 for 200 and you can get it here. 3) White throw rugThis is a Tumblr bedroom essential! It really pulls everything in the room together. You can put it in the middle of your room or under a piece of furniture. I put it underneath this vintage vanity that my mom bought for my sister at a thrift store a few years ago. We sometimes pull the rug out and use as a photo backdrop for product shots. The vanity is used as jewelry + hair accessory storage, furniture decoration and as a desk. You can buy the rug from Amazon ($25) here. 4) Necklace HANGERI love necklaces, but I needed someplace to store them without it getting tangled. I love having a jewelry hanger because it hangs them separate and far enough apart so they don't twist. I enjoy how you can easily find the one you are looking for because they are all on display. Jewelry hangers are elegant + organizational. They come in many styles and you can hang rings, bracelets and necklaces. You can buy a similar tree hanger here ($23). My favorite necklaces are simple styled gold + silver ones from places like Forever 21. My Sunrise Shell necklace I bought for $40 here. 5) Back of DOOR HOOK for bagsI had so many bags and nowhere to put them, so I purchased a hook to hang them on. It was cheap + simple and went right on the back of my door for easy organization. A lot of Tumblr rooms I looked at had clothing racks that you hang some clothes or bags on, but I didn't have any room it. This hook works way better for smaller rooms! It has 4 prongs so you can hang multiple bags or coats on it at one time. You can buy it here for $9! These are my four most used + favorite bags! The best purse I have ever owned is the medium sized black American Eagle one. I brought it to Europe and I use it on a day to day basis. it has multiple compartments, it is the perfect size and is a great messenger/cross-body purse. You can get a similar one here for $25. I use the smaller black bag (also from AE) if I don't need to bring a lot of items with me. You can buy it ($40) here with the pom pom key chain ($8) here. My favorite backpack is from Vans! It has a mesh exterior and is great for traveling. You can buy a similar one for $35 here. The key chain is from Shop Bando. Lastly, my favorite beach bag is from Rice Love. You can get yours for $38 here. Use my code: ALEXASPRINGER for 20% off at checkout. I am thinking of setting up a print shop of some of my best photos. Which ones do you like? 1/21/2018 0 Comments faqwhat does haole mean? This is my most asked question! The term haole (pronounced HOW-LEE) is used in Hawaii to describe a white person. Traditionally it is a word for a foreigner with a derogative tone, because white people took over Hawaii. But nowadays, it is a factual word because I am a haole in Hawaii. what camera do you use?I shoot with a Sony A6000 with a f/1.8 50 mm lens. I recently upgraded from a really old Canon Rebel XTI and I love it! how long have you been doing photography?Four years. I have always been interested in photography but I did not do it professionally until around 14. I gained knowledge and experience by taking individual and family portraits with my Canon Rebel XTI. My family and I moved to Hawaii right before I was 15 and then I got some more new paying clients. I started taking product shots for some companies on the island and whilst traveling. And now at 17, I have built up a profile and small business. :) why did you start blogging?I wanted a place to share my photography portfolio, travel adventures and everything you need to know about Hawaii. Many people ask me about what to do like in London or if they can see my pictures from the Big Island so i decided to publish a website. I also wanted to connect with and inspire more people. where do you shop?I have a comfy cute style for my day to day outfits. I prefer Hollister for jeans, jackets and sweats. I like Pink Desert, Target, TJ Maxx, Charlotte Russe and Old Navy for dresses + shirts. There are not as many big name brand stores that I like (from the mainland) in Hawaii, so I order a lot online. I have a huge swimwear collection that mostly consists of Lime Ricki, Old Navy, Pines and Palms, Albion Fit and Target. What is your religion?I am a Mormon or LDS and I go to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I love living in Laie, Hawaii because it is a small, mostly Mormon community with a temple and BYU in the neighborhood! Majority of my peers at my school are members also and it is great! Visit lds.org for more info. what do you use To edit your Photos?I use mostly VSCO presets. I like Snapseed and Lightroom. I don't really edit like some photographers with extreme Photoshop and fancy filters. I just like to enhance the picture to its greatest potential by simply brightening it or adding some color or contrast. where do you wAnt to travel next? While I am going to Germany, Denmark and England in the summer (!!!), I would love to visit any of these next: Japan, Indonesia, Tahiti, Greece, Italy, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Thailand, China, Netherlands, Philippines, Switzerland, Dubai or Morocco. what are your life goals?Graduate high school. Start and run my own business. Travel to each continent. Graduate from a university. Finally get my own dog. Get married (eventually) in an LDS temple. Have a happy and successful career that I love. how many countries have you been to?So far, just four: England, Portugal, Spain and France. where was the best place you have traveled to?I think Portugal!! We got to see the majority of it because we had a car and drove so much! I was surprised by how much I liked it and it just blew me away. Every city we visited was so different. I loved Porto, Lisbon, the Algarve, Obidos, Peniche, and Nazare! what is your favorite social media PLATFORm?I like Instagram because I am a visual person and I love seeing pictures instead of words. I like Pinterest too, which I use quite often for inspiration and trip planning. (PS I don't have a Twitter or a Snapchat.) Have a question? I will answer anything down below in the comments. :)
